After waiting a year and a half for the paper work to go through, it’s official:
Thanks to my mother being a Canadian citizen, I have now successfully claimed my dual citizenship. Next up I can get a Candian passport, and travel as a Canadian, instead of as an American, something that is more in more important in light of how well… loved the US is right now by the rest of the world.
Congratulations… I guess. Mind you, you’ll soon find out that a Canadian passport is a mixed blessing: feel WAY more appreciated than Americans, yet be allowed to go visa-free to WAY fewer countries than Americans.
Here, I’ve been trying to get rid of the damn Canadian citizenship. Not easy at all. The Law allows the Citizenship and Immigration Board of Canada to never let go.

No matter what , USA CITIZENSHIP Iz the best. With rights and freedom canada is still occupied by uk and french happy citizenship by paying 48% taxes in canada good luck with 4.50$ a gal of gas, and the nice 4$ of a galon of milk dont be proud of that shame sorry but even if that offer for me all the citizenships of the world instead of my US citizenship I wont giv’t uup.

A side note in regards to visa-free travel:
Indeed, Canadian passport has fewer visa-free destination than United States’ passport, by FIVE countries. And guess what? They are:
- Equatorial Guinea
- Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire)
- Macedonia
- Mongolia
- Niger *visa upon arrival
Are you planning to travel frequently to these countries? Sure, trash the Canadian passport.

Congrats to your citizenship! I’m still working on becoming a permanent resident here in Canada. I am from Germany. I love both countries and I have to say that the friendliest people live in Canada. In the states I didn’t make any good experience. It starts already at the airport. You get treated like shit. I come from a country where you (as a single person) pay more than 50% taxes on your income. You pay 19% GST on everything you buy. But we also have a healthcare system that works. We don’t have to wait days to see a doctor. We care for the people with less than the others. We have people from all over the world living and studying there. Do the states care for their people? Why is it, that a country wastes every year 50% of its whole budget for defense when there is not even a real enemy? Couldn’t they use the money to repair their own country instead of destroying one after another? Just think about it…
The great white North(CANADA) is the best Country in the world. I am proud to be a Canadian. And for all you stupid Americans. We gotta tell you it does not matter if we need visas for 5 additional countries than you ….but the matter of fact is that we are respected more than you in this world. so shut up EH!!!!!
I really appreciate what both commenter 21 said about Germany. I studied in Germany and have my best friends there. Europe is different. I used to make a trip every week end!, Holand, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Czech Republic…etc. ppl are really friendly, open minded, ( except elderly ). Canada is so busy, hectic, and time run faster then Europe. In Europe you have time for everything.

The thing is not about visa-free ports. Why would he have dumped the thousands of dollars and uncounted hours of research, paperwork, and multiple background checks just to avoid filling out a visa app? In the 1st and 3rd worlds Canada is seen as the Switzerland of the West, while the US, even in Canada, is seen more and more with bitter suspicion. A Canadian foreign-aid worker is typically seen as a friend; His/her American co-worker is probably CIA.

US tax is not lower!! that is a myth! I live in Vancouver BC, if I lived in Washington State my with the same pay my check would be 20$ lower!! every month!! and Washington has NO state income tax!! So income Tax in BC is lower then ANY US STATE!! CANADA”s highest tax bracket is only 29%!!! much lower then the US and we have no tax on inheritance! the only tax that is higher is sales tax and sin tax! and thats not even ture when you compair it to high tax states like cali

Funny how every on knows the highest tax rates and the cost of Gas & Milk… What they don’t realize is that the average wage is about 30% higher… and the minimum wage is (on average) 25% percent higher… Not to mention 11 paid holidays, and a minimum 2 weeks vacation…… One thing I didn’t realize is that we seem to have a better education system too. :)

I don’t understand how an American can bash Canada? First of all, half of the American population thinks that Canada is a small country filled with esquimos living in igloos with pet-beavers that ride moose to their job at the beer brewery. Canada has, GENUINELY, gained the respect from mostly all countries because we aren’t childish morons who think they’re better than everyone else. Canada has a better education system, a better healthcare system (WHICH IS FREE.), higher wages, lower costs of living, lower gas prices & taxes, un-polluted air, and last but not least, people don’t hate our country to the point where they want to drive planes into our buildings. I mean seriously, what is bad about Canada? It has cold winters, and we’re stuck being neighbors with the US… Other than that, I can’t think of anything wrong with such a great country…
