Completion for the boo shell, kiosk thoughts

Monday, June 6th, 2005

So this sunday I managed to track down Todd in order to hash out a few things about the MD code completion stuff. The net result after a few days hacking on it, I give you basic code completion for the boo shell!!

The code’s not in SVN yet, and I’ve managed to break the completion stuff for the editor slightly, but otherwise, it’s getting there! I’ve got more than a few problems to iron out, but hopefully the next week or two I can get this stuff commited.

On the free internet kiosk front: first of all thanks everyone for the feedback via comments, emails, IRC, whatever. In response to those that proposed something at a nearby community center, the fact is i have but one old laptop, and already have an internet connection here. Showing up with a beater laptop at a community center and saying, “I want to waste your time, and force you to get an internet connection!” doesn’t sound like it’ll fly.

Some people have stated that I’ll need something in place to keep porn, etc off the machine. Initially I was hesitant to do this, but now I’ve realized that this is going to have to be one of those unfortunately innevitabilities of something like this. I really don’t want this to turn sour when some kid’s mother finds out little Johnny has been looking at porn thanks to my kiosk. I know I can google it, but can anybody suggest a good HTTP proxy that does this sort of thing? (I’m assuming that’s how any OSS implementation of something like this would function).

Physical security wise, I’ve still got lots to ponder, but I think I found a light post type thing to which I can lash whatever unit I create. Plenty more there to ponder.

Wordpress upgrade

F*cking wordpress upgrade made my nice stylesheet work disappear. Well, it’s upgraded, now I just have to find time to stop it looking like every other wordpress install out there. Mad hatter, how I miss thee.
